Livac welcomes new Board Director

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Philip Nowell to the Livac board of directors as Non-Executive Director and Chair. This appointment is effective from 1 September 2021 and continues on from Mr Nowell’s engagement with the Company, as a strategic advisor since 2020.

Mr Nowell, joins Livac’s board of directors with demonstrated expertise in the global medical devices market including:

  • From 1990-1996 in Australia, Mr Nowell was engaged to the launch of Ethicon Endosurgery, a Johnson & Johnson company. The company is a leader in the laparoscopic device market. Mr Nowell was responsible for sales and marketing of the product line and gained direct experience of the laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery market.
  • In the period 2000-2003, Mr Nowell was engaged as COO of Foundation Healthcare Ltd. Following a re-structure of the failing Australian national medical centre group into IPN Ltd, the business grew from this new base and was sold to a competitor. Today the IPN medical centre business is owned by Sonic Healthcare Ltd and manages 230 medical centres.
  • From 2003 to 2013, based in the USA and with global responsibility, Mr Nowell scaled up and led the aortic device business of US major device company, Cook Medical, and achieved industry leadership with a top three market position. Under Mr Nowell’s leadership, the business grew from FDA approval to realising multi-billion-dollar global sales across the major device markets of the USA and Canada, Western Europe and the Asia-Pacific.
  • Having returned to Australia in late 2013, Mr Nowell was engaged in 2014 and 2017 to lead two stages of a commercialisation strategy development for US-based aortic device start-up, Ascyrus Medical Inc. The strategy was executed and led to the company being acquired by CryoLife, Inc in September 2020 for US$200M.

Following Mr Nowell’s appointment, Dr Anabela Correia, the Company’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director said ‘the Company is looking forward to continuing its work with Mr Nowell and in leveraging his significant expertise in bringing surgical products to market and orchestrating strategic company exits. Mr Nowell’s expertise and global networks will help guide the Company to scale in the US market and position for its own exit’.

Mr Nowell is an active member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) having completed the ‘Company Directors’ course and participated as a director for a number of companies.
