USA – First successful patient case
The first successful patient case using the LiVac™ Retractor has taken place in the USA.
The LiVac was used to retract the liver during a bariatric procedure – a laparoscopic gastric bypass – with the LiVac maintaining retraction for the duration of the 90-minute procedure. Pre-operative set up, preparation and insertion of the LiVac into the patient was all achieved in less than 5 minutes.
The bariatric surgeon, known to be innovative in the field of bariatrics, was identified and supported through the trial by our recently appointed US distributor SurgiCore Inc.
Following the successful case, the surgeon provided positive feedback on the LiVac including the elimination of an additional incision (required for competing retractors) and the potential for improved post-operative patient recovery without this additional incision site.
He is also looking forward to trialling the LiVac Retractor in other cases including robotic surgical procedures.
Other surgeons at the hospital have since expressed interest in trialling the device.
